Isabelle, in your previous role, you were one of Kempinski’s Ladies in Red, our iconic Brand Ambassador. Did you always know you wanted to become one?
The hospitality industry runs in my veins. My grandmother was running her own little travel agency. Whenever I spent time with her we would watch documentaries about different destinations and their hotels. Often as a child, when asked what I wanted to do when I grow up, I always answered: “I want to be a GM or an athlete”. It was whilst watching a documentary on Dubai, that I came across Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates where the iconic Lady in Red – Kempinski’s Brand Ambassador dressed in the signature red colour, was introduced. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to become a Lady in Red. I told myself, this is what I want to become when I grow up!
How did you join Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden?
Once I knew the career path I wanted to follow, I pursued my studies in the hospitality trade and completed my practical apprenticeship. In January 2014, I attended “Karriere Start”, a recruitment fair in Dresden, Germany. It was there where I met Ute, our Human Resources Manager, who was accompanied by a group of apprentices. She was extremely kind, took the time to talk to me about the different career path options and answered all my questions. That day when I got home, I knew that this was the hotel I wanted to work for! That same night I prepared and submitted my application. A day later I was invited to the hotel for a face-to-face interview and shortly after I held my apprenticeship contract in my hands. My Kempinski career was about to take off. Today I can say that I loved every minute of my apprenticeship.
How does your career with Kempinski look like today?
Upon completing my apprenticeship, I felt that I needed to explore a different side to luxury hospitality and left to work at a smaller hotel and grow my experience. Soon I discovered that as nice as a smaller hotel was I still missed the work and the atmosphere at Kempinski. A few months later Ute reached out to me and I could not have been happier. I returned to Hotel Taschenberpalais Kempinski Dresden in March 2018, as a Lady in Red. My childhood dream job had become a reality and I was ecstatic. Since then I have had the opportunity to grow every day together with my colleagues ensuring we deliver a beautiful performance to our guests but also our team members on a daily basis. Through my hard work and determination, I was promoted to Guest Relations Manager & Lady in Red at the end of 2018. It has been an amazing journey and I thoroughly enjoy working with my team – one could say they are like an extended family. We are there for one another and make work fun.
I reached a new milestone in my career with Kempinski in October 2019 when I was promoted to Front Office Manager. I take this new step with excitement and determination to keep on working hard, achieve all my goals, and ensure our guests leave with a smile on their faces and return to us with an even bigger one.
